The economic value of PCs lapse into dust, but material scrap remains in enormous, inert quantities. While information is searching for its next host, recyclers are sifting through discards, turning residual volumes into dollars.

The depreciation of a typical PC spans from 2,000 dollars at the time of purchase, to a maximum resale of 150 dollars three years later. Raw materials may be salvaged from obsolete computers, but the majority of these materials sell for less than 1 dollar per pound.
